Il existe plusieurs versions de cette chanson populaire pour enfants écrite par Mary S. Miller en 1893 racontant l'histoire folle d'un homme qui avait un chat dont il ne voulait pas et qui essaye de s'en débarasser en vain...
Cette chanson est à la base de ce court-métrage d'animation réalisé en 1988 par Cordell Baker, The Cat Came Back, produit par le Canada's National Film Board.
Le film fut nominé aux Oscars dans la catégorie Meilleur Court-Métrage d'Animation en 1989, alors qu'il était récompensé la même année d'un Genie Award Canadien, et d'un World Animation Celebration.
